Occasioned by the prevailing rate of unemployment in the country, Promotion of Human Aid and Community Development in Africa (PHACODA) a fast growing nongovernmental organisation has concluded plans to collaborate with members of the National Assembly beginning with notable Senators to launch its vocational skills programme.

The skill acquisition programme will involve selected youths from the 36 states of the Federation registering to undertake any of 25 available courses,  they include; Photography, Graphics Design, Fashion Designing, Hair Styling, Nail tech, Make-up, shoe Making, Carpentry/woodworks, Culinary, Bakery and Pastry, Video production, Automobile mechanic, Sound engineering, Music production, Barbing, Computer engineering, Skin care, Phone engineering, Welding/fabrication, Electrical engineering, Paint production, Architecture design, Interior design and Costume design, Special effect. 

Giving an insight into the NASS partnership, the organisation’s Public Relations Officer Mr.Napsa Yusuf in statement on Saturday,  disclosed that PHACODA led by its Director of programs Mr. Chidiomimi Angels has reached out to selected Senators based on their track record of performance especially the aspect of youth empowerment. 

According to him some had indicated interest to work with the organisation to enable it achieve its employment creation goals, which they described as laudable. Napsa said that the organisation carefully compiled a list of outstanding Senators who have distinguished themselves in their legislative duties , they include,  Chief Whip of the Senate , Senator Orji Uzor Kalu; Senator Uche Ekwunife; Senator ifeanyi Uba; Senator Michael Nnachi; Senator Phillip Aduda;Senator Utazi Chukwuka;Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe;Senator frank Ibezim and some yet to be names legislators.

Napsa expressed that the importance of PHACODA partnership with the legislative arm of Government is for the programme to have an input of the parliamentary experience of the Senators in terms of resources, access to government grants amongst others.

The Statement read in parts; “Due to the high rates of poverty among the Nigerian youths being unable to acquire the right vocational skill experience, PHACODA has concluded Plans to partner with stakeholders in national politics, specifically the members of the National Assembly, some distinguished senators. 

“Visionary leaders who have come to set an example in visionary representation and good governance by working for the common good to enhance the living standard of youth in Nigeria through promoting vocational and trade development across their different constituencies. 

“Our aim is to partner with our political leaders and other stakeholders to impact and also help the youths to be self-reliant and contribute to the GDP of our great nation Nigeria. 

“Looking at the youths from 35 years below, you will see the majority of them don’t have employable skills. With this partnership, a minimum of 2.5 million youths will be relevant in the growth and development of our great nation through skills and  technological innovation.

Recall that earlier in May, it disclosed its plans to train 2.5 million Nigerians through the acquisition of vocational skills to empower youths in the 36 states of the federation with vocational training commencing with 25 out of 44 available courses. As follow up to the plan, the organisation, through its Director, Chidiomimi Angels, announced that the organisation had entered a partnership with the Federal Government under the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
